Sharon M. Shapiro

Sharon M. Shapiro is a Senior Associate Attorney at the Oak Park and Chicago Loop Offices of Wakenight & Associates, P.C.  She was born and raised in Chicago and attended college in Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1986.  Her interest in the law led her to attend law school at the Chicago-Kent College of Law from where she graduated in 1986.  After law school Sharon worked for many years for various government agencies that included: The Office of the Chief Judge of Cook County where she designed, implemented and directed the Expedited Child Support Division located at 32 W. Randolph, The Illinois Department of Public Aid (now the Department of Health Care and Family Services) where she implemented a grant to review 10,000 child support orders, The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts where she was the first Child Support Staff Attorney for the Illinois Supreme Court, The Cook County Public Defender where she was solely responsible for preparing more than 40 appellate briefs, and the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County where she was involved with the start-up of the Title IV-D Federal and State Child Support Enforcement Program.  After her long career in public service Sharon's interest in divorce and family law led her to own and operate her own divorce and family law office for several years until she finally joined forces with Wakenight & Associates, P.C.
