Melissa Fish knew early in her collegiate career that she would become a professional with the education and skills to help those in need. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 2006 with her B.A. in English, Melissa prepared for law school. Melissa received her Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in 2010 and was admitted to the Bar in 2010. It was during law school that Melissa realized she had a passion specifically for family law. This was made evident when she received the Family Law CALI Award in 2009--an award given to the student with the highest GPA in the family law class at John Marshall. From there on out she took as many classes as she could to build her knowledge and skills as a future family law attorney.
The activities in which Melissa participated during law school are also a testimony to her interest in and dedication to family law. In addition to her studies, Melissa clerked for a family law firm during law school. As a 711 licensee, she had the ability to counsel clients, engage in the preparation and drafting of legal instruments, and to appear in the trial courts while under supervision. She clerked for the Cook County Office of the Public Guardian where she represented, counseled, and fought for abused and neglected children. Under her qualification as a 711 licensee, Melissa was also able to represent the State in the Misdemeanor Division where she gained valuable litigation skills as she was able to prosecute offenders.
Welcomed to Wakenight & Associates, P.C. in 2011, Melissa's dedication to family law has made her a perfect fit as an associate attorney. Melissa's personal attributes and experiences have made her a caring and compassionate attorney who will fight zealously for her clients in and out of the courtroom. She takes pride in communicating with her clients and makes it a priority to return clients' phone calls within hours of receiving them. Melissa is sensitive to her clients' questions and concerns, and she goes out of her way to remove as much stress as possible from the sensitive matters that arise in the field of family law.
