Shannon O’Shea

Associate Attorney

Location: Mokena

After graduating college with distinction from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Shannon O’Shea was accepted into law school at the prestigious Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. There she also graduated with distinction and was awarded the Order of the Coif for graduating in the top 5% of her class. Her academic achievements including being awarded three American Jurisprudence Awards for the highest overall grade in the class, including in her Juvenile/Family Law class.

With a love for the Courtroom and skills and accomplishments in several areas of law Shannon began her career in civil litigation working as an Associate Attorney in a boutique law firm in the Chicago Loop defending clients in toxic tort, environmental law, product liability, and contract cases. After years of working in these areas of law, compiling discovery, interviewing clients and witnesses, drafting pleadings and discovery responses, going to Court, conducting hearings and trials, etc., Shannon decided to explore an area of law which she was interested in and had done well in at law school, namely, family law.

In changing her focus to legal work that she thought she would find more meaningful, Shannon initially provided legal counsel at a not-for-profit group assisting clients with disabilities and mental illness, as well as children in need of legal representation to enforce Individual Educational Programs in their school districts. Once she started doing this work Shannon realized the satisfaction that came with helping families and children in need and … she was hooked. So instead of continuing her daily commute to her rat race job in downtown Chicago … Shannon applied for a family law position with The Divorce and Family Law Offices of Wakenight & Associates, P.C. in Mokena, and her talents and passion landed her the dream job she was seeking, namely Associate Attorney with Wakenight & Associates, P.C.

As an Associate Attorney at Wakenight & Associates, P.C., Shannon works closely with clients to resolve issues arising out of all family law conflicts including divorce, paternity, adoption, child support, parental allocation of responsibilities (f/k/a custody), parenting time (f/k/a visitation), etc. Her extensive experience in bench trials, evidentiary hearings, contested hearings and trials not only serves her well in Court but makes it clear to opposing parties that a fair proposal is better agreed to than challenged in Court against an experienced attorney like Shannon.
